Kenai Municipal Park

Distances in Alaska are so large that getting anywhere requires a lot of driving time.   Alaskan highways are some of the most beautiful long distance drives in the United State, but the experience can be lost on small children that are cooped up in the car for hours at a time.

Luckily there are excellent playgrounds sprinkled around in not so-obvious places.  These are great ‘pit stop’ places to enjoy a packed lunch and let the kids get out and burn some energy.

One such place is simply called ‘Municipal Park’ near the mouth of the Kenai River.

The playground is located on S. Forest Dr in Kenai.  There are standard public park bathrooms so don’t expect much for cleanliness.  We love this park and playground because of the unique apparatus it offers – a large climbing rock and a huge rope pyramid which provide new challenges for young kids.  There is also standard playground equipment as well as picnic tables, a large field and even walk-in camping spaces if you want to have a fire and stay a while.

If you are in the neighborhood and the kids need to burn off some energy, it’s worth a visit!
